Is the Flu Shot Still Being Offered This Year?

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many things have changed—but one thing that has not is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that everyone who is able to get a flu shot does.

This year, it is actually more important that everyone receives their flu vaccine in order to stay healthy and avoid overwhelming our medical centers with sick patients.

Is it Safe to Get the Flu Shot Right Now?

Not only is it completely safe to get the flu shot right now, it is also highly recommended.

Receiving the flu vaccine can help keep you healthy so you do not have to seek treatment, and can prevent you from accidentally spreading the flu to someone else asymptomatically.

Flu Symptoms

  • Fever and chills
  • Muscle aches
  • Sore throat and cough
  • Fatigue

Isn’t It Too Early to Get The Flu Vaccine?

The CDC recommends getting your flu shot each year by the end of October. It’s a good idea to wait until at least September to be vaccinated to ensure the vaccine covers you through the entire season, but you’re good to get your shot now!

While flu season does not typically get into full swing until the winter, your body takes time to build immunity—therefore, the more people that get vaccinated early, the fewer people there are that are at danger of getting sick if they are exposed.

Other Tips for Boosting Your Immune System

  • Sleep between seven and nine hours every night.
  • Eat a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables.
  • Get plenty of vitamin C.
  • Keep stress levels low.
  • Exercise regularly.
