Is Coffee Good for Me?
With as much coffee as many of us drink, we’d sure like for that to be the case, wouldn’t we? Well, coffee, albeit consumed in moderation, does thankfully offer several health benefits!
Read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Louisville gives you the scoop on this staple drink.
What Can Coffee Do for My Health?
As most of us know, coffee is a commonly used source of caffeine. While caffeine generally carries around a negative stigma, smaller doses of caffeine can be good for your health.
Caffeine, when consumed in moderation, can improve various aspects of brain function, including memory, mood, vigilance, energy levels, reaction times and general mental function.
Other Health Benefits of Coffee
- Can help you burn fat
- Contains some essential nutrients like riboflavin and magnesium
- Is a great source of antioxidants
- Can improve your mood and productivity levels
When Does Coffee Become Unhealthy?
As we’ve said previously, coffee is a great thing when consumed in moderation. Too much coffee consumption, usually over at least 3 cups a day, pumps your body full of excess caffeine and can dehydrate you. Too much caffeine can also make you irritable, sleepless, and may even trigger anxiety and cause diarrhea.
Coffee can also become unhealthy when you start adding creamers, sugars and syrups to it. The more cream and sugar, the less healthy it becomes. The healthiest way to consume coffee is by drinking less than 2–3 cups per day and drinking it black.
How to Keep Coffee Healthy
- Don’t drink any coffee after 2pm. Caffeine in the afternoon can interrupt your sleep.
- Choose a quality brand to drink. Preferably an organic one.
- Add some cocoa or cinnamon instead of cream and refined sugars.
