How Do You Treat Spring Allergies?
While we are practicing social distancing and staying home at this time, it is also important for us to spend some time outdoors—even if it is in our own backyard.
While the vitamin D from the sun can do us some good, this time of year can also bring about a number of symptoms like watery eyes and an itchy nose due to the pollen. But that shouldn’t keep you from enjoying the great outdoors!
Our team at AFC Urgent Care Louisville wants to share some tips about how you can tackle your spring allergy symptoms and enjoy the sunshine this season!
Is the Springtime Allergy Season?
It could seem as though springtime allergies last for an entire year. However, spring allergy season is usually defined as taking place from the end of February to around summer time.
Then, once fall approaches, another allergy season starts—fall allergies.
Symptoms of Spring Allergies
- Swollen sinuses
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Sneezing
- Scratchy throat
- Post-nasal drip
- Itchy eyes
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Watery eyes
How Long Will My Spring Allergies Last?
Unfortunately, we are currently in the toughest month of the year for seasonal allergies. Because of the ragweed and pollen from blossoming trees, flowers and grasses, April tends to be a really hard month for allergy sufferers.
Allergy symptoms may linger as long as the allergen you’re reacting to sticks around. But you can take steps to treat your symptoms and to prevent them in the first place.
How to Treat Seasonal Allergies
- Flush your nose with nasal irrigation.
- Take a hot shower.
- Breathe in some eucalyptus oil.
- Eat spicy food.
- Take an OTC antihistamine as needed.
- Eat some probiotic-containing foods.
