Does AFC Offer Same-Day Sports Physicals?
Your child is going to score the game-winning touchdown or come across the finish line first this season, we can just feel it! But only if a proper sports physical is on file with your school district…
Don’t wait until the last minute to get your child’s sports physical done! This important exam should be taken care of annually to ensure your budding athlete is cleared to jump, run and score his or her way through the season.
AFC Urgent Care Louisville can perform your sports physical for you any day of the week for a competitive price. Read on to learn more about our physical process and what to expect.
Do I Need an Appointment for a Physical?
We know you are busy running around getting ready for the beginning of the school year and season, so just come by whenever you have time in your schedule to get your child’s physical completed. No appointment is necessary! We work efficiently to keep all patient wait times short so we will have you in and out in no time.
We will start by getting your child’s vital signs like height, weight and blood pressure, and then we will get a thorough health history of your child and of your family. This is to determine if there is a hereditary or genetic condition that we need to be on the lookout for, like a possible heart issue or asthma. We will also check for injuries or signs of an emerging condition that would make it harder or more dangerous to participate.
Possible Issues We Can Uncover
- Change in asthma symptoms
- Underlying heart conditions
- New allergies
- Organ injuries or conditions
What Happens if My Child Fails the Physical?
Sports physicals aren’t typically a pass/fail mentality. We are simply looking for potential issues or red flags that may come up later in the season and could become a problem. For example, having an asthma diagnosis doesn’t necessarily disqualify your child from certain sports, but it may require some accommodations or a change in medication.
Keep in mind that the vast majority of kids who have something come up on their physical will go on to have great seasons without any issues! If it is something that isn’t life-threatening or dangerous, we will just suggest to follow up more frequently with your primary care provider and monitor your child during practices and games. Stop by today, and let’s get this checked off your busy to-do list.
Potential Changes After a Sports Physical
- Change to asthma medication or inhaler
- Prescriptions for an auto-injector pen for a severe allergy
- Suggestions on protective sports equipment
- More frequent monitoring or doctor’s visits
